One of the greatest things about the Great Western wine region is its ability to successfully grow a broad range of grape varieties. Shiraz may be the regional hero, but Cabernet Sauvignon from the area can lay almost equal claim. Best’s Great Western 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon is a fine example of the Great Western Regional style; supple tannins with dark cherry, cassis, confection and cinnamon spice. With small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Merlot, this vintage Cabernet is a delight to drink now, but will certainly gain more complexity over the years.
Scented with layers of red fruit, mulberry, blackcurrant and leafy spice. Integrated supple tannins with dark cherry, cassis, confection and cinnamon spice.
This youthful wine is a great expression of the variety in Great Western. It is possible to enjoy this wine now with food, but it will soften and gain complexity over the next 5-10 years. Enjoy with a salt crusted lamb roast, seasonal vegetables and a light red wine sauce. A lighter grazing board with soft cheddar or creamy polenta with pan fried greens like Asparagus and Broccolini.
An excellent season with near perfect growing conditions right through to harvest. Adequate winter and spring rainfalls set the wines up to burst into life and sustain beautifully balanced growth throughout the summer. Autumn was ideal with little rainfall.
'Deep ruby red colour. Blackberry, bramble, and bay leaf all fill the aromatic senses. Medium weight, graphite notes add contrast to the sweet berry fruit whilst a herbal layer fills towards the finish. Tannins are supple and very approachable, making this medium bodied red a real crowd pleaser. Drink now to 2035.'

'If this wine auditioned for a role in the film adaption of Remains of the Day it would get the part in a heartbeat. It’s just so exquisitely well mannered. Ultrafine tannin, perfectly ripened fruit, the line of acidity placed just so. Even the oak wraps smokily around the herb notes, as if to ensure that they don’t appear too loud. This mid-weight cabernet would make the perfect butler to the finest of meals.'
